Two years ago, in a teaser for NBC’s The Voice Season 6, I watched a petite girl sing the lights out of Miley Cyrus’ Wrecking Ball to which the four judges – Adam Levine, Usher, Shakira, and Blake Shelton – all turned around. I followed this girl’s journey through the competition and was disappointed that she didn’t win. She was already a YouTube sensation before joining the contest and her powerful voice and bubbly personality netted her more followers. I guess fame has its downside, too.
At the age of 22, the girl named Christina Grimmie went to be with her Maker. The vocalist was outspoken about her faith. She has a tattoo on her forearm which translates to ‘All is vanity’ which is taken from the book of Ecclesiastes in the Bible. The video above features her singing a classic usually heard during the holidays. Her life basically sings of her Lord and Savior. Whatever platform she was given, she made sure that the light placed within her soul shines brightly for His glory.
As of yesterday, there are police reports indicating that her beliefs might have been the primary reason for her death. Only God knows the answer as her killer took his own life, too. It’s tragic to hear of senseless killings such as this. I don’t claim to understand why things happened as such. All I know is that Christina is now belting choruses to the One she loves and worships and she’ll be doing it for all eternity.
